Independence Day Weekend

This weekend was obviously the fourth of July but it was also the Jazz Festival in our town. They blocked off one of the main streets and set up several stages and filled it with people and food vendors. It was a great time. We stopped by every night to get a shaved ice and listen to the music. For the most part the weather was gorgeous.

On the last night we went to see the last band play and watch the city fireworks. We started out the evening on one side of the old capitol building:

And moved to the other side around sunset to get a good seat for the show. The sunset was beautiful and it was neat being surrounded by so many people to celebrate:

The show was great and one of the best parts was a young boy that was seated behind us and his exclamations of delight at every...single...firework. It was charming. With every boom he'd shout, "Did you see that? What is that?!" And his parents would patiently, and then not so patiently, reply. At one point he decided that they were all upside down and then his shouts became, "Look at that! It's upside down!"

We finished registering for everything and picked out bedding set which was surprisingly difficult.

I can't wait until I can start doing the rest of the decorating for her room! I want to do some hand paintings and crafts to make it extra special. We'll have a lot of work to do but my job is replacing me soon so hopefully I'll have plenty of time to get everything done before October gets here.

What's even more exciting is that Arna and I's one year wedding anniversary is coming up Saturday!

  1. If we could seriously zoom in on the picture that shows where you were sitting for the fireworks you would likely seem me and my wonderful mother!! How were we sooo oblivious to our surroundings that we completely missed each other at such a close range? Good grief...
